The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) called on the Chair of the Prairie Valley School Division today to explain why the board accepted their Director of Education’s resignation in one motion and then rehired the individual back for the same pay and duties in the following motion.
Minutes from the board’s May 11, 2011 meeting show the cryptic back to back motions. The CTF confirmed with the board’s Director of Education, that he was the individual in question and that his pay and position did not change.
The Director of Education would not indicate if he planned to draw on his pension from the Saskatchewan Teachers Superannuition Plan. The plan currently has a $4 billion unfunded liability which is fully backstopped by taxpayers.
“Why would the board do this?” asked CTF Prairie Director Colin Craig. “If the move was done to allow the individual to start drawing on his pension, the board should be up front about that.”
“We hope the board will disclose their legal opinions on the matter as well as their letter of request to the province which sought an exemption from the requirement to advertise the position,” added Craig.
